Hello. Guys.
Today, The place I'm going to introduce is Seokchon Lake Park.
Let's Start.
1. Where is this park?
The area of the lake is 217,850㎡, the amount of fresh water is 6.36 million tons, and the average depth is 4.5m. After the construction of the lake, Songpa-daero (an arterial road crossing the north and south of Songpa-gu, Seoul) was divided into Dongho (105,785㎡) and Seoho (112,065㎡). The lake, which combines Dongho and Seoho, is 2.5km around.
This park is located in JamSil.
If you use the subway, you can walk up from Exit 2 or 3 of JamSil Station.
It takes about 10 minutes on foot from JamSil Station.

Open year round.
2. Information of this park
Seokchon Lake Park is a resting place loved by the citizens of Seoul. It is divided into West Lake and East Lake based on Songpa-daero. Visitors are able to see various sights such as Lotte World Adventure, Cafe Street, and Bangi-dong Food Alley while exploring around. Additionally, every spring, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the Seokchon Lake Cherry Blossom Festival is held.
The best spot is located in the direction of West Lake from Songpa-daero towards Lotte World. It's a great spot to take photos with the skyscrapers and beautiful lakes in the background.
If you take to tour Seokchon Lake, it takes an average of 30-40 minutes (less than an hour) to explore the east and west sides of Seokchon Lake.
3. History of this park
The place where Seokchon Lake is located was originally the main stream of the Han River where Songpa Ferry was located. Songpa Ferry is said to have been the main point of an important waterway leading to Hansung, Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do, and Gyeongsang-do during the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. Currently, a monument called Songpa Naruteo is erected in the east gate of Seokchon Lake.
In the past, there was an island called Burido Island formed by accumulating soil on the Han River on the side of Jamsil, and the southern waterway and the northern waterway, that is, the Songpa River and the Sincheongang River, flowed around Burido Island. In April 1971, the grand construction (Han River Public Water Reclamation Project) began to land the island by expanding the northern waterway of Burido Island and closing the southern waterway, and the closed southern waterway remained as the current Seokchon Lake. The land created by the reclamation work at that time was the current Jamsil-dong and Sincheon-dong.
In the 1970s, it was an ugly lake, but it has become a resting place for citizens since 1981 when green areas were created around the lake and trails and shelters were installed to make it a park (Songpanaru Park). For a while, it was shunned due to worsening water quality and odor, but since 2001, Songpa-gu has selected Seokchon Lake as a target site for the attraction project and carried out a large-scale maintenance project, the water quality has improved a lot. Of the 2.5km shoreline, 1.88km of concrete shoreline facilities were removed, and aquatic plants were planted instead to convert them into ecological shoreline, and ecology began to be restored by establishing a Han River water circulation system.
